Biography
JEREMY ENIGK IN CONCERT:
Singer-songwriter Jeremy Enigk is considered a progenitor of emo music, and his influence on the genre is immediately apparent at his heart-on-sleeve live shows. The former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman's passionate vocals and off-kilter melodicism carry over to his solo work, which brims with earnest sentiment and unexpected stylistic shifts. While Sunny Day has been on-again, off-again over the years, fans can get their fix at Enigk's highly anticipated string of 2015 solo dates. Whether he's performing Sunny Day favorites like "How it Feels to Be Something On" or playing cuts from his 2009 album OK Bear, he always treats ticket buyers to an emotional concert experience full of world-wise lyrics, visceral melodies, and evocative guitar playing.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Seattle-born Jeremy Enigk first rose to prominence in the mid-'90s as frontman of Sunny Day Real Estate. The band made its debut on venerable indie label Sub Pop with 1994's Diary, a seminal album that pioneered the way for a generation of emo bands that followed. Their self-titled 1995 sophomore LP launched them from underground notoriety to national acclaim, peaking at No. 25 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and drawing them out for extensive touring. Around that time Enigk underwent a radical spiritual transformation and left the band to release his 1996 solo debut Return of the Frog Queen, but he rejoined the band soon after and released SDRE's third album How it Feels to Be Something On (1998). The band released their final album The Rising Tide in 2000, and in 2001 they went on hiatus. Enigk went on to front SDRE offshoot band The Fire Theft for several years before releasing his sophomore solo album World Waits in 2006. He quickly followed up with The Missing Link (2007) and OK Bear (2009) before reuniting with Sunny Day Real Estate in 2010. Since then the band has hinted at new material but remained tight-lipped about a release schedule, making Enigk's highly anticipated 2015 solo tour dates all the more exciting for fans.
