Biography
CARNIFEX IN CONCERT:
San Diego deathcore favorites Carnifex took their name from the latin word for "butcher", and fans at their bone-crunching live shows will have no trouble seeing why. The band's decibel-shattering sound recalls legendary groups like Dying Fetus, Dark Funeral, and Slayer, and their epic live shows live up to the comparisons, whipping fans into a frenzy with an aggressive onslaught of sonic mayhem. Leading the charge is frontman Scott Lewis, whose guttural growls are perfectly accompanied by Shawn Cameron's pummeling drums, Fred Calderon's heavy bass lines, and Jordan Lockrey and Cory Arford's razor sharp guitar riffs. It all adds up to a raw, intense live experience that leaves ticket buyers thoroughly rocked and ready for more.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Deathcore band Carnifex was formed in San Diego in 2005 by vocalist Scott Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron. The following year they released their debut EP Love Lies in Ashes, which earned them a record deal with underground label This City Is Burning Records. They made their full-length debut in 2007 with Dead In My Arms before inking a deal with Chicago-based Victory Records. After touring extensively with bands like Emmure, Whitechapel, and MyChildren MyBride, and bringing crowds to venues like the Summit in Denver to capacity, Canifex released their sophomore album, 2008's The Diseased and the Poisoned, a Top 20 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. After two more albums -- 2010's Hell Chose Me and 2011's Until I Feel Nothing -- they announced an indefinite hiatus and played three farewell shows in California at the end of 2012. But it wasn't the end for the band -- Carnifex returned in full force in 2014 with their fifth studio album Die Without Hope.
