Biography
Eric Hutchinson in Concert
Eric Hutchinson's soulful, hopeful pop has been wowing audiences since he independently released his breakthrough album Sounds Like This in 2007. Propelled by instantly hummable singles like "Rock and Roll" and "OK, It's Alright With Me," ‘Sounds Like This' set iTunes Store records for independent artists and made him a household name. In the years that followed, the Maryland-born, Boston-launched crooner contributed songs to ‘Grey's Anatomy' and ads for Microsoft's Windows 10, and he toured endlessly, sharing bills with high-wattage artists like inaugural ‘American Idol' Kelly Clarkson and emo-pop act Jack's Mannequin.
After embarking on a much-deserved hiatus from touring in 2016, Hutchinson felt refreshed. He and his longtime touring band The Believers reconvened to make ‘Modern Happiness'—this was the first time he brought The Believers, who fill out his powerpop vision with rich harmonies and amp up his already-high energy quotient onstage, into the studio. The band proved to be perfect foils for Hutchinson as he worked on his fifth album, helping him fill in the gaps of songs like the Beatles-esque "She Could Be the One" with their vocal and instrumental contributions while also letting him work on new music that was marked by lyrical honesty about life, love, and what it truly means to be "happy."
Hutchinson began rolling out songs from ‘Modern Happiness' in January 2018—one a month leading up to its October release. In September he branched out into gaming, using his extensive musical knowledge and concert-honed party-starting skills to ‘Songversations,' a card game designed to get people talking about why they love the music they love.
Love for music is a big part of why Eric Hutchinson remains a great live draw. He has a strong rapport with his band and an even more unbreakable bond with his fans, and his musical growth on ‘Modern Happiness' will only strengthen those two links.
